Henrico has an extensive network of park and recreational facilities, many of which have historic significance. This 150-acre farm was donated to the County of Henrico by Mrs. Elizabeth Adam Crump, wife of the late Adjutant General of Virginia Sheppard Crump, a descendent of the original owner. Meadow Farm is now the site of a nursing home, museum, and park. The Richmond National Battlefield Park protects more than 2,000 acres of land in its 11 units spread throughout Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico. Other than a few small parking lots, tour roads and visitors centers, most of that land is essentially green space—protected nature preserve.
